The Multitude Connected

Research the_multitude_connected proposes a nomadic and collaborative space that ally to hackers, media-artists, social scientists and activists for the thought and the action around the construction of "a world in which they fit many worlds".

Some authors have called "the digital multitude" to this new movement that arises toward ends of the decade of the 90 as result of unpublished alliances among technicians, scientific social and artists.

Multitude, in the sense of Negri and Hardt, of the new composed political subject by a multiplicity of agents, independent and diverse, but interconnected in network and with creative capacity of convergences in specific circumstances. Digital, by the importance that is attributed to the technologies of the information and the communications in the conception and the development of its action.

The action of the digital multitude is not antiglobal, neither, by its by its own definition, can be antitecnological. The digital multitude is building other relations, - other agenciamientos if we utilize the terminology of Deleuze and Guattari -, among globalization, technologies and networks. The ethics of the first hackers, the forms of production and property of the knowledge of the desarrolladores of free software or the hybrid action among the real thing and the virtual thing of the tactical average, are some of the virus produced by the digital multitude that begin to infect to other social fields.

The fight by the control of the technologies, - media of communication, information and knowledge - constitutes one of the keys of the movement. We would be able to call it socialización of the media of information and communication. If the systems are centralized and of code closed, - as in the case of the television or the sofware proprietary -, the company will spread toward relations of domination and dependence. If they develop open systems of networks, multidireccionales and of open code - as the telephone, the free software, or the www during their first phase - relations of autonomy they will be promoted, creativity and liberty. Some of the technologies with the ones that will experience in the shop - wifi, streaming of video, satellite connections bidireccionales.. - They are at present in an incipient state, and its next development will depend on the strategies and forces that come to put in play the actors that defend some and other models. As digital multitude we are the technological vanguard. "You recall", write Lovink and Schneider, "they are the dinosaurs."
